I'm sure he did a clinic for drumwright in Reading and was on a premier clinic tour too though i never caught him.

wot i wanna know is why arent ALL the drum magazine hip to this guy and giving him covers and articles and why hasnt sabian done a massive WORLD clinic tour......he must be the most technically advanced and ADVANCING drummer on the planet!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually Modern Drummer has been very hip to Virgil of all the Magazines. He has been on the cover a couple of times since 98 and they have said very directly that he is the "King" of progressive fusion Drumming and more than once called him the most advanced drummer on the scene today, I know in the last article they said one person of all the guy's pushing the limit's of drummimg comes to mind when thinking of the who has REALLY taken over the top drumming to a place unreachable to most "MERE MORTALS" and that was Donati. I know that when Virgil was first hitting the scene real hard worldwide that he did do a number of Sabian tours, specifically in Europe. The last time he hit the U.K. was in 2001 I believe, but he has played all over Europe to a great degree the last 2 or 3 years. A number of tours and clinic's.

I'm not surprised to read what people have to say about Virgil. Like Tony in the 1970's, he had to be seen to be believed. I remember asking him to do something that I thought he was doing but I could not believe he was doing. He had me kneel down by his HH and watch his right hand. Then, I believed it! What you hear is not always what's being done.

You know, a lot of people did NOT appreciate what Tony was doing with the Lifetime(s), back then and were in the heart of the Fusion era. Some players still haven't got hip to what Tony was
doing back then. You can tell that Virgil got up to it, though.

Compare the Tony of the 1970's to the Tony of the 1960's and the difference is radical. Sometimes, I wish he continued along the lines of the 1960's. Other times, I'm happy that things turned out the way they did.

A lot of players think Virgil is just a loud MF on the kit, just like they said about Tony. The difference is that Tony had the 1960's behind him and the appreciation of thousands. Virgil is coming out of left field, with an anvil, dropping it on our card-table! [img]eek.gif[/img]

These guys were/are explorers. We don't have to go with them if we don't want to but if you don't get on the express train, you risk getting to your destination a lot later. Virgil will progress, if you can imagine that. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

As players get older, they become more musical. it will happen more and more for Virgil. It's not a question of what he can't do, it's a question of what he wants and is thinking about doing. It's like that for many drummers. It's in the mind. It's about what we think is possible. [img]graemlins/smarty.gif[/img]
